It was on Read/Write, I changed it to custom to give it Admin access as well, and I'm back to "not authorized". as I was writing this up, i decided to check the "media folder" permission settins. I've tried this processs twice both with a normal install, and with a claim token.

If you cant install a plex update via synology package center then you can manually update from plex website, which is usually a couple version newer. In both cases, only Plex couldnt contact 'the internet,' and then magically it could.
